If you haven't tried Mike's Hot Honey you are SERIOUSLY missing out. Establishing in Brooklyn, NY in 2010 Mike's Hot Honey is a chili pepper-infused honey and my new favorite condiment. Pairs well with pizza, chicken, ribs, salads, ice cream, and cocktails! I even add some of this honey to my tea in the mornings :)

They also support local beekeepers and their hives by harvesting they honey from the New York apiaries - another reason to love this brand! Thank you Brooklyn for giving us Michael Kurtz the founder of Mike's Hot Honey, and pizza.

At a Restaurant in Staten Island, Mr. Ciao, they had an amazing espresso rubbed skirt steak that was AMAZING. Sadly, it's no longer on the menu so I decided to make my own coffee-crusted steak. Coffee-crusted steak is FANTASTIC with Mike's Hot Honey drizzled on top. (I also pan-seared the steaks)

Coffee-Crusted Steak with Mike's Hot Honey

Coffee-Crusted Steak - this is the best steak recipe to make at home for date night. Seasoned with coffee, brown sugar, chili and paprika; pan-seared & oven cooked to perfection. Don't forget the Mike's Hot Honey!!

Ingredients:

  • 2 filet mignon

  • 2 table spoons olive oil (or cooking oil of your choice)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • 1 tablespoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Chili Powder

  • 2 tablespoons finely ground coffee

Instructions:

  1. One hour before cooking, take the steaks out of the refrigerator and pat dry with a paper towel.

  2. Brush both sides of steak with olive oil.

  3. Sprinkle both sides of steaks with 2 teaspoons of your Coffee Dry Rub, make sure you rub the mixture into the steaks.

  4. Set the steaks aside to warm to room temperature for about an hour. (During this time is when I usually start putting together a side of mixed veggies).

  5. Preheat oven to 450F.

  6. Heat a cast iron pan over high heat.

  7. Place 1 tablespoon of olive oil in the hot pan and place steaks in pan. (I substituted Olive Oil for Truffle infused Ghee).

  8. Sear the steaks for 2 minutes, using tongs flip the steaks over and cook them for another 2 minutes to get a nice sear.

  9. Transfer the cast iron skillet with the steaks to the hot oven and cook the steaks for another 5 minutes until medium rare 130F or to your liking.

  10. Remove steaks from the pan, and plate with the side of your choice.

  11. This last step you do not want to leave out ---Drizzle Mike's Hot Honey on top of the steaks before serving.

  12. Enjoy! And go buy some Mike's Hot Honey!
